How do you rent out your apartment in Newark?

Six steps take an empty unit to a signed lease. You can do each one yourself, or SubCity Group does them for you. Call (862) 330-6122.

Six steps

What are the six steps?

  1. Get the unit ready. Clean it, fix small problems, and check the heat, hot water, locks and detectors.
  2. Price it. Compare similar Newark apartments near you. Price too high and the unit sits. How to price your apartment. See what an empty unit costs with the vacancy calculator.
  3. Photograph and list it. Clear photos of every room. List the bedrooms, rent, move-in date and what is included.
  4. Answer fast and show it. Renters call several landlords. The first one to answer usually gets the showing.
  5. Screen applicants. Check ID, income, credit, background and rental history with criteria you set and apply evenly. New Jersey law limits how criminal history can be used and bars refusing someone because they pay with a voucher. See tenant screening.
  6. Sign the lease. Collect what is due at signing and hand over the keys.
